Do you perform background checks on your nurses?
YES, each employee must pass a background check. This consists of verifying their nursing license through the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services Family Care Registry. This registry gives us the following information:
  • State criminal history
  • Sex offender registry
  • Employee disqualification list
  • Child abuse/neglect records
  • Employee disqualification registry
  • Random Drug Testing
Lastly, we check work history and confirm any license or certification to verify they are current.

Are your caregivers insured and bonded?
Yes, we insure and bond all caregivers and employees.

Will my insurance cover your home care services?
This will depend on the insurance plan. We provide assistance with insurance verification, prior authorizations, and levels of reimbursement your insurance will cover. Most commercial insurance plans will cover skilled nursing however very few will cover caregiver hours. The staff at Compassionate Nursing will check for long term care plans, secondary insurance, and if VA benefits are available. We then will consult with you about what we have found and guide you in the right direction with any benefits that are available.

What insurance companies do you accept?
We will work with all commercial, long term care, and secondary insurance companies if your insurance plan includes the services needed in the home. Most long term care and secondary insurance companies pay the individual to cover these types of services.

Will Compassionate Nursing Services come to my home on weekends and holidays?
We are available to assist the patient 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. Weekends begin at 11pm on Friday and end at 11pm on Sunday. There is an additional charge for holidays. Holiday hourly and visit rates will be charged at one and one-half times the standard rate for the following:
  • New Year’s Eve
  • New Year’s Day
  • Easter
  • Memorial Day

  • Labor Day
  • Thanksgiving Day
  • Christmas Eve
  • Christmas Day
How does CNS handle my transportation needs, for instance, when I have a doctor’s appointment or need to go to the market?
CNS employees may transport a patient if the following conditions are met:
  • The patient has a car available for employee to use (employees are not permitted to drive the client in the employee’s car).
  • The patient provides insurance, including full coverage-comprehensive, collision, and liability for the patient's vehicle.
  • CNS reserves the right to deny transportation service at management discretion.
What if I don’t need to be transported but need your employee to run an errand?
If the employee is required to perform errands in the employee’s own car, you will be charged a per mile rate, based on the most current federal reimbursement guidelines.

What are the billing policies for CNS services?
We require a one week deposit before starting services. The financially responsible individual will be responsible for all charges incurred for services requested from CNS. We send out bills twice a month and payment is due within 7-10 days of receipt of the statement. Compassionate Nursing will assist you in processing claims for reimbursement to insurance companies or other third party payers if they reimburse you directly.

Who decides my plan of care?
We will work with you, your family, and your physician to determine your medical and personal needs. Our Director of Nursing will then do a free assessment to create a plan of care that is tailored to your individual needs and your family’s preferences.

How far in advance do I have to plan for arrangements to be made?
Typically, arrangements can be made within 24 hours. Many times we can provide an initial assessment the same day once you notify us you are in need of our services.

Does your agency consult with my family to explain my plan of care and educate them about my medical and non-medical needs?
Absolutely, we believe that a high level of communication with your family is essential to developing and implementing the patient care plan. Also, we provide education to your family about various medical diseases.

Who ensures that my care plan is being followed?
Our Director of Nursing will be involved in overseeing the care plan for every one of our patients. She will do initial assessments, supervise all staff nurses, provide periodic guidance and training to our staff nurses, and make periodic visits to your home. During her supervisory visits to your home, she will ask you specific questions regarding your care to identify any areas that we can improve your care.

What type of training do your caregivers receive?
Our caregivers are carefully screened during the interview process and given a pre-employment screening test. Once our caregivers are screened, they have to complete and pass our Compassionate Caregiver Camp. Each caregiver is required to participate in this four hour training program and must pass the competency exam before being hired. For those who successfully complete this program, we then provide periodic training directed towards the type of patients that the individual is caring for. We will also provide additional information to our caregivers for certain patient diagnosis. Compassionate Caregivers remain current on the latest practices and procedures to provide extraordinary in-home care.
